SRH

IPL 2025 has come to an end, and it was the season of many firsts, which also witnessed RCB winning their first IPL trophy. In this article, we will look at the performance of the former champions SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).

SRH Squad Rating for IPL 2025: 7/10

The orange army made a name for themself as a team that plays an attacking brand of cricket right from the first ball and likes to take on the bowlers to get the opposition under pressure in the 2024 season.

However, the Pat Cummins-led side wasn’t able to replicate the work they did in the 17th season of the league for a second time in a row.

Nothing went right for the former champions in the season gone by, which had to do a lot with the failure to adapt to different conditions and situations, and play with the same approach.

The approach backfired badly and received heavy criticism. However, this didn’t prompt SRH to think over it and take a more calculated path in the entire tournament.

The team continued with the same top order, with the likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan taking charge in the first six overs.

The lineup that scored more than 250 runs in SRH’s opening game of the season struggled to cross the 200-run mark in most games and crawled their way to a score of 170-180 or even lower.

It was Hyderabad’s stubbornness that was one of the reasons why the team couldn’t fulfill the expectations of fans.

The top seven batters in the lineup batted in a similar attacking way, with Henrich Klaasen and Aniket Verma being the only two players who showed some sense of responsibility.

Having said that, it was not all gloomy for SRH as there were certain moments to cherish in an utterly disappointing season.

One of those moments was SunRisers Hyderabad’s successful run chase of 246 runs against PBKS, courtesy of a breathtaking century from Abhishek Sharma.

This was the highest successful run chase by SRH in the history of IPL and the second highest overall.

Highest Run Scorers

Player Matches Runs Strike Rate 6s
Henrich Klaasen 14 487 172.69 25
Abhishek Sharma 14 439 193.39 28
Travis Head 13 374 162.60 15

As far as SunRisers Hyderabad‘s bowling performance is concerned, the bowling lineup appeared heavily dependent on the batters to post a memorable total on the board.

The bowlers looked out of plans while defending totals ranging between 160-170 and were taken to the cleaners by the opposition.

One of the biggest disappointments for SRH this season was senior statesman Mohhamed Shami. The fast bowler wasn’t able to pick up wickets with the new ball and went for plenty of runs as well.

Other fast bowlers like captain Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, and Jaydev Unadkat also failed to make a significant contribution in any phase of the innings.

The only shining light for SRH in the fast bowling department was Eshan Malinga, who bowled well and used his variations intelligently.

SunRisers Hyderabad’s spin bowling was taken care of by uncapped Indian bowlers Zeeshan Ansari and Harsh Dubey, both of whom did a decent job in the absence of experienced spinner Adam Zampa.

Highest Wicket Takers

Player Matches Wickets Economy 5w
Pat Cummins 14 16 9.06 0
Harshal Patel 13 16 9.80 0
Eshan Malinga 7 13 8.92 0
