Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simmons confirmed that MS Dhoni would take the field in the game against KKR on Wednesday. The CSK captain had reportedly skipped training sessions ahead of the game in Kolkata, fuelling speculations over his fitness. The five-time champions have already been eliminated from the IPL 2025 playoffs race and are at the bottom of the points table.
Dhoni will play in tie against KKR
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the CSK bowling coach brushed aside concerns over Dhoni skipping practice sessions ahead of the game. He explained the rationale behind the CSK captain’s choice to take a breather by skipping training, adding that he knew the situation very well.
“Yes, he’s expected to play tomorrow. With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well. He knows where he is. In terms of his preparations, he always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he’s ready. So no issues, he just knows when he is prepared and when he’s not,” the CSK coach said.
As we near the end of IPL 2025, speculations about Dhoni’s future is rife. Once again, questions of whether this is the CSK legend’s final season have started doing rounds.
“You see MS Dhoni as the cricketer, we always see MS Dhoni as the man who is a remarkable individual. His influence on the team, his ability to nurture Rutu, to nurture young cricketers, is what’s legendary about him,” said the bowling coach.
