Gujarat Titans (GT) director Vikram Solanki has provided a positive update on skipper Shubman Gill’s fitness ahead of the IPL 2025 match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Solanki revealed that Gill had been dealing with a minor back spasm, but the team is optimistic about his availability for the upcoming match.
Shubman Gill scored 84 runs off 50 balls in the Gujarat Titans’ previous match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, he did not take the field during the second innings due to a fitness concern. Spinner Rashid Khan had to lead the team during the match, where GT suffered a disappointing eight-wicket defeat.
There Was a Bit of a Back Spasm – Vikram Solanki on Shubman Gill
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Vikram Solanki said that Shubman Gill had experienced a minor back spasm and the team was taking a cautious approach. Solanki stated that Gill’s condition would be assessed during the training session.
“His fitness, there was a bit of a back spasm. We’re just trying to be careful with it. He’ll be at training today. We’ll just see where he’s at. We’re reasonably confident that he’s going to be OK,” Solanki said (via India Today).
Shubman Gill has been in good form for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. The right-handed batter has scored 389 runs in nine games at an average of 48.62 and a strike rate of 156.22, including four half-centuries. With a strong record at Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill is vital to the team in the crucial fixture.
We Must Pay the Due Respect That SRH Deserves – Vikram Solanki
Vikram Solanki has acknowledged that SunRisers Hyderabad have had an inconsistent performance in IPL 2025, but they remain a dangerous side.
The GT director said that the team won’t take them lightly, adding that they have several players capable of turning the game on their own.
“We must pay the due respect that SRH deserves. They are a very strong team. We will be conscious of the threat that they have. They’ve got match-winners across their team,” said Solanki (via aforementioned source).
SunRisers Hyderabad have struggled with consistency in IPL 2025, winning just three of their nine matches. However, they managed to secure a victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their recent game.
We Mustn’t Take Any Credit Away from That Young Man – Vikram Solanki
GT faced a defeat against Rajasthan Royals in their last match, following a stunning century by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. However, Solanki said that the loss had not impacted the team. He added that GT could have executed their plans better.
“Firstly, I don’t think the team has been decimated or anything of the sort. We mustn’t take any credit away from that young man. He played quite brilliantly. Of course, we could have done things differently. We could have bowled in a slightly more controlling manner, we could have sort of shut him down, perhaps.”
Gujarat Titans will face SunRisers Hyderabad in their next match on Friday, May 2. GT secured a seven-wicket win when the two teams last met earlier in the season.
