Team India cricketer Prithvi Shaw has opened up about a difficult phase in his career, including going unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. Shaw also admitted that he has made many wrong decisions in his life, and off-field distractions led to a decline in his interest in cricket.

I Have Made Many Wrong Decisions in My Life – Prithvi Shaw

In an interview with News24 Sports, Prithvi Shaw admitted that poor choices and off-field distractions affected his game. Shaw revealed that he used to spend most of his day on the field before he began surrounding himself with the wrong people.

“Only I know what has happened. I have made many wrong decisions in my life. I feel I started giving less time to cricket. Earlier, I used to bat in the nets for three to four hours, and half of my day used to be spent on the ground till 2023,” Shaw said.

“After that, I started considering things that were not that important. I made some wrong friends who started taking me here and there. I got distracted during that time,” he added.

I Have Left Everything, Like Friendships – Prithvi Shaw

The 25-year-old batter said that he decided to distance himself from certain friends and make significant lifestyle changes. Shaw also expressed frustration over public perception, saying that even a simple outing like a family dinner gets misinterpreted.

“I have left everything, like friendships and a lot of stuff, aside. I don’t even like going out at all these days. The paparazzi are also there. Even if you go to a normal restaurant, they are present. The perspective about me now is that I am always out. But they don’t know that it could be a family dinner, or if I am out for bowling,” Shaw added.

I Didn’t Have Control Over That – Prithvi Shaw Opens Up on Fitness

In the same interview, Prithvi Shaw spoke about his weight and added that he never stopped training, but his lack of control over food led to weight gain. Shaw admitted that his eating habits impacted his fitness.

“I am a big foodie. So, I didn’t have control over that. It was not like I didn’t train, but I did not have control over my food. The quantity of food I ate was more, and then I would go to sleep right after eating. Also, my immune system was such that if I didn’t train for a while, it would show,” Shaw said.

Prithvi Shaw has played for India in five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I. He scored 134 runs on his Test debut against the West Indies in 2018.

Shaw was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad in the 2024-25 domestic season after just two matches due to fitness issues. He was also left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad by the selectors.

The batter scored 197 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 156.34 during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, finishing as Mumbai’s third-highest run-scorer in their title-winning campaign. He last played competitive cricket in the Mumbai T20 League 2025.
