In an attempt to prepare for the Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to organise a tri-nation series featuring Afghanistan and hosts UAE just weeks before the continental tournament. The series, which is expected to be played in the UAE, will give the Men in Green a crucial head start in adapting to the local conditions.
Pakistan desperate for action at Asia Cup
Originally slated as a bilateral series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the proposal to expand the contest into a tri-series was floated by the PCB, with final confirmation likely after the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Bangladesh.
Speaking to the media after the ACC Annual General Meeting in Dhaka, Naqvi said: “Yes, it’s confirmed and will take place before the Asia Cup in UAE.” Naqvi also hinted at the possibility of another tri-nation series in February 2026, featuring Pakistan, Australia, and Bangladesh, during Australia’s scheduled tour to Pakistan. “I wish we can have it. Definitely, we would like to have it,” he said.
The Pakistan men’s T20I team, under new coach Michael Hesson, has been quite poor. They recently lost the three-match T20I rubber against Bangladesh, even going down 30/6 in a must-win clash. On July 24, however, Pakistan won the dead rubber by 74 runs.
Also, with all the back and fourth around the Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board would hope that their team shine at the event.
