Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has opined that RCB al-rounder Krunal Pandya deserves captaincy. The Baroda star has had a stellar season so far, enjoying tremendous success with both bat and ball. RCB decided to name Rajat Patidar as the captain ahead of IPL 2025, naming him as Faf du Plessis’ successor.

Pandya as next RCB captain?

Speaking on Star Sports, Gavaskar said that leadership role would suit Krunal well, especially with the kind of thinking he has. He pointed out that Pandya had enjoyed success in all three departments – batting, bowling and fielding – and that yet no one considered him for captaincy.

Krunal Pandya is an outstanding cricketer. Batting, bowling, fielding – he is in the game every single moment – No body considers him for captaincy but with the kind of thinking that he has, often that leadership role will suit him well,” Gavaskar opined.

KP’s success in RCB

After spending three seasons with LSG, Krunal was released by the side ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was picked up by RCB for Rs 5.75 crore. RCB struck gold in the form of the all-rounder, with Krunal showcasing his all-round prowess and turning out to be a match-winner.

Apart from a handy unbeaten 73-run knock in the game against DC, Krunal has been most impressive with the ball in this season. He has 13 wickets to his name from 10 matches. With best figures of 4/45 and an economy rate of 8.62, Pandya has turned to be one of RCB’s best bowlers and the leading spinner in the side.

RCB are currently placed third on the points table with 14 points to their name. They will next take on CSK at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
