The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) received a bomb threat during the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Chennai Super Kings match (KKR vs CSK) at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday (May 7).
According to reports, CAB received the threatening mail from an unidentified sender on its official email account. It received the mail while the KKR vs CSK match was underway at the Eden Gardens. The authorities sprang into action immediately to keep the situation under control.
CAB authorities beef up Eden Gardens’ security
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly gave an update on the entire episode and stated that the police officials have started their investigation. Ganguly also said that the security at the stadium was beefed up during the match to avoid any unfortunate incident.
“The Cricket Association of Bengal received a bomb threat mail during the KKR vs CSK match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 7. The mail was detected from an unknown ID in CAB’s official email during the match. The police are investigating the matter while security at Eden Gardens has been beefed up,” said Ganguly.

KKR vs CSK: CSK beat defending champions
Meanwhile, the KKR vs CSK match concluded without any interruption. CSK beat KKR by 2 wickets to return to winning ways and all but end KKR’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
Batting first, KKR scored 179/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led his team from the front and was the top scorer, scoring 48 runs off 33 balls. Andre Russell (38) and Manish Pandey (36) played useful knocks as well. For CSK, Noor Ahmad starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 31 runs.
CSK win away from home
In reply, CSK were off to a poor start as they lost three wickets for just 37 runs inside 3 overs. They soon found themselves reeling at 60/5. However, Dewald Brevis scored a whirlwind fifty to put his team on the front foot. The South African star scored 52 runs off just 25 balls.
CSK’s innings was in danger of getting derailed again when they lost 2 wickets in the 19th over. However, captain MS Dhoni stayed till the end, hitting a six and four in the final over off Andre Russell to power his team to a win.
