MI lost a thriller on the last ball against GT
After being invited to bat first in the match, the Mumbai Indians failed to do a good job and were restricted to 155/8. Will Jacks (53), Suryakumar Yadav (35) and Corbin Bosch (27) were the only good performers in the innings.
Defending the total, Mumbai Indians made a terrific comeback after the rain break thanks to Jasprit Bumrah. After yet another rain delay, GT needed 15 runs to win in one over, and Deepak Chahar couldn’t defend as he bowled a terrible no-ball and even conceded a six from Gerald Coetzee.
Speaking after the match, Hardik Pandya said that they fought really well. He said:
“Yes definitely it’s a tough way to go down. I think we fought really well with the total we had on the board. Most of the time we were got out of the game but as a group we kept pushing. It was a game of fine margins.”
My no-balls and even the last no-ball. In my eyes in T20s it’s a crime – Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya further slammed the batters for not scoring enough and blamed his as well as Deepak Chahar’s no-balls for the loss in the match. Notably, Hardik bowled numerous no-balls in his 18-run over. He said:
“It was definitely not a 150 wicket. We were definitely short of 20-25 runs or maybe 30 runs if we would’ve batted well. Credit to the bowlers as they bowled in the right areas and kept fighting.”
“I mean I won’t say catches costed us the game. We were very clinical in the field. I would rather say the no-balls. My no-balls and even the last no-ball. In my eyes in T20s it’s a crime. Most of the times in T20 cricket, it bites you. It definitely did to us but at the same time, really happy that everyone gave their 120% and fought really well.”
Hardik Pandya also expressed his disappointment over several stoppages in the match. He said:
“I mean in the first half of the 2nd innings, the ground was not that wet. Post that, the ball kept getting wetter. It was difficult and rain kept coming in. It’s not ideal to have so many stoppages in a game and then start again but at the end we had to play a game which we did.”
How did MI perform in the previous IPL match against GT?
On March 29, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Mumbai Indians (MI) faced a 36-run defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ninth match of IPL 2025.
Winning the toss and bowling first in the match, MI allowed GT to reach 196/8 in their 20 overs. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/29, while Boult, Mujeeb, Chahar, and Raju chipped in with one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 197 on a sluggish black-soil surface, MI couldn’t get going and finished at 160/6 in their 20 overs. Rohit Sharma was cleaned up for 8, and Ryan Rickelton fell for 6.
Tilak Varma (39 off 36) tried to steady the innings alongside Suryakumar Yadav, who played a counter-attack innings of 48 off 28 balls. However, their dismissals at crucial junctures halted MI’s momentum.
Hardik Pandya struggled and contributed a 17-ball 11 before falling to Kagiso Rabada, and despite late cameos from Naman Dhir (18* off 11) and Mitchell Santner (18* off 9), MI were restricted to 160/6.
