The 58th game of the ongoing IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was called off on Thursday (May 8). The PBKS vs DC match was taking place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
With rain playing spoilsport, the start of the match was delayed, but no overs were lost. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya completely justified their captain’s decision as they gave their team a flying start with the bat.
They added 122 runs for the first wicket in just 10 overs before T Natarajan broke the stand in the 11th over. On the first ball of the over, the left-arm pacer dismissed Arya for 70 runs to give DC a much-needed breakthrough. Arya’s knock came off just 34 balls and was studded with 5 fours and 6 sixes.
Immediately after the fall of the wicket, one of the light towers went off, and the players were asked to leave the field. The fans were also asked to leave the stadium before the match was eventually called off due to security reasons.
“Yes, the match has been called off as a precautionary step, because there are some incidents which happened in Jammu, I believe. That’s what we got to know, so we thought it’s wise to call off the game,” said IPL president Arun Dhumal.
IPL 2025 Points Table After PBKS vs DC game:
An outright victory in the PBKS vs DC IPL match would have made PBKS the first team to qualify for the playoffs. However, both teams shared a point each as the game was abandoned. There was no change in position for either of the teams in the points table. PBKS continue to remain at the third spot while DC are at the fifth spot.
