The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering venues in the eastern and southern part of the country to restart IPL 2025 if possible in a week’s time. The league was suspended for one week on Friday amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. With no uncertainty over when the situation may improve and be conducive to restart IPL 2025, the board is playing a wait and watch game while also considering all options.

Southern, eastern states to host remainder of IPL 2025?

As per Times of India, a source has claimed that the BCCI is working on a contingency plan, adding that a week’s time was a long time in such matters (of national security.) The source claimed that the board was also considering hosting the remaining IPL 2025 matches in Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru if the league could be re-started next week.

A week is a long time when it comes to such matters. The board is chalking out a contingency plan. But the initial feelers are that the BCCI is considering the rest of IPL matches in cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru if the league restarts next week. If things de-escalate at the border, the board might also retain the original venues,” a source told the publication.

IPL 2025 suspended temporarily

There are 12 league stage matches left in IPL 2025, apart from the four playoff matches.

IPL, in a media advisory, said:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
