May 5 was an eventful day for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced a replacement for Smaran Ravichandran to start the day and were knocked out of the tournament by the end of it. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also named a replacement in Urvil Patel. Gujarat Titans (GT) got their pacer, Kagiso Rabada, back.

But the non-IPL news was perhaps more important. Mohammed Shami received a death threat via email. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) could remove Jasprit Bumrah as the India cricket team’s Test vice-captain. And lastly, the departure date for India A’s tour of England is out.

BCCI to remove Bumrah as Test vice-captain

The BCCI are thinking about removing Jasprit Bumrah as Team India’s Test vice-captain. The pacer has been Rohit Sharma’s deputy for a few years now and even led in Australia. But due to injury concerns and the fact that he needs to be rested to ensure he can remain unscathed in England, he isn’t being considered for a leadership role anymore.

SRH eliminated from IPL 2025

Last year, SRH were one of the best teams. They reached the final after winning 8 group stage matches. This year’s gone the complete opposite. Of the 11 games they’ve played, SRH have lost 7 and have been knocked out. They can’t even blame the rain for getting eliminated, considering how poorly they have played.

Kagiso Rabada back for Gujarat Titans

On May 3, it was revealed that Kagiso Rabada was provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned non-performance-enhancing drug. Well, two days later (May 5), his suspension was over. Rabada was suspended from April 1 to May 1 and therefore is eligible to play in the IPL and WTC Final.

Shami gets death threat

Currently playing for SRH, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has received a death threat at his home in Amroha.
