Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck in his first T20 since retiring from the format in international cricket. Rohit Sharma fell to left-armer Khaleel Ahmed after flicking a length ball straight to Shivam Dube at midwicket in the CSK vs MI clash. Like Virat Kohli, Rohit had also decided to retire from T20 Internationals after helping India win the T20 World Cup last year.
While Virat Kohli started IPL 2025 with a bang, Rohit Sharma, playing for Mumbai Indians in their tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings, could not get off the mark.
Most ducks in IPL history
- 18 – Dinesh Karthik (Teams: DC, GL, KKR, KXIP, MI, RCB)
- 18 – Glenn Maxwell (Teams: DC, KXIP, MI, RCB)
- 18 – Rohit Sharma (Teams: Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians)
- 16 – Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders)
- 16 – Piyush Chawla (CSK, KKR, KXIP, MI)
Rohit Sharma continues to struggle
Rohit Sharma was criticised for his poor form in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the India captain even dropped himself from the final Test in Sydney.
Once India returned home, Rohit Sharma batted himself back to some sort of form and hit a hundred against England in the ODI series before a match-winning half-century against New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma’s duck now puts him on a dubious list with Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell for the most ducks in the Indian Premier League. All three have now gotten 18 ducks in the IPL while Sunil Narine and Piyush Chawla have 16 each.
Rohit Sharma has been a bit of an enigma in the IPL – he has three double hundreds in one-day internationals including a world record 264 and 5 T20I hundreds.
In the IPL, Rohit has scored 6628 runs from 258 matches, averaging less than 30 with 2 hundreds.
