Batting first at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Chloe Tryon put in the first act of her performance. The 31-year-old smashed a stunning 51-ball 74, stitching a vital partnership with Annerie Dercksen. Tryon struck 145.10, hitting four boundaries and 5 sixes in Colombo, helping her side post 315 batting first.

However, it was with the ball that Chloe made the most impact. The Proteas all-rounder first dismissed both set openers to break the back of Sri Lanka’s chase. She later finished the job off, taking a hat-trick in the 42nd over of the innings. Tryon first got through Dewmi Vihanga, before dismissing Sugandika Kumari and Malki Madara for golden ducks.

Chloe Tryon eventually finished with figures of 5/34 in 8 overs. The 31-year-old became just the 3rd South African to pick up a hat-trick. Dane van Niekerk was the first Proteas player to take a hat-trick, with her heroics against the West Indies in 2013. Masabata Klaas was the second player to do so in 2019, achieving the same feat in Potchefstroom against Pakistan.

Speaking after the game, Tryon said, “I wasn’t great in the morning. I am happy. One of the best moments (74, 5-wicket haul and a hattrick) for me.”

Chloe’s effort come a little too late for South Africa Women. The Proteas are already knocked out of contention in the tri-series having lose their 3 previous games. Sri Lanka and India will face off in the final. The clash will be played in Colombo on May 11.
