MS Dhoni CSK CEO

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni had another poor outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as his team faced a disappointing loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Wednesday, 30th April. The match between the teams took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

MS Dhoni has been in the news ever since the match against Pthe unjab Kings started. At the toss, he dropped a massive hint about his availability for the next season. He was asked if he would come to play next year, replying to which he said he hadn’t thought about it and would decide later.

However, Dhoni didn’t have the kind of game he would’ve wanted. He first failed to make an impact with the bat, and then the team went on to lose the game. The Shreyas Iyer-led team completed a comfortable 4-wicket win and strengthened their position in the points table.

With the loss, Dhoni & Co. became the first team to be eliminated from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This in itself reveals the poor performance that they have displayed in the league. The franchise is last on the points table with just two wins in 10 outings this year

After the match against Punjab Kings, MS Dhoni was also seen having a chat with CEO Kasi Viswanathan. The skipper of the team was stopped on the sidelines of the boundary ropes. But things didn’t look serious as the two were seen laughing after some discussion.

“I don’t think CSK needs Dhoni the captain next season – Shaun Pollock

Shaun Pollock, who was part of the discussion on Cricbuzz, made a strong statement, saying that CSK doesn’t need MS Dhoni as captain next year. He said that the owners of the franchise will leave things up to the keeper-batter, but he will be surprised if Dhoni plays next year. He said:

“I don’t think (CSK needs Dhoni as the captain next season). He is having to step in because Gaikwad is injured. He has nothing more to achieve. He has won as much as anyone. It’s gonna be down to what he wants because of the legacy he has left and the impact he has had on the franchise, they have kind of given him free rein to be the one who makes the call.

“We will wait until you have decided you have had enough. Will that change? I don’t know. Would the owners have a word with him? We’ve tried to predict this for so long and now we sound like a broken record. We can’t get to the bottom of it. But yeah, I would be very surprised if he were there next year.”
