Karun Nair Runs Out Shubman Gill

The veteran Delhi Capitals (DC) player Karun Nair produced a stunning run out to send back the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill in the 35th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The high-voltage match between the Delhi Capitals and the Gujarat Titans (GT) took place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, April 19.

Shubman Gill falls for a low score

The GT skipper has looked in good form in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has gotten off to good starts in most of the matches but has failed to convert them into big scores.

Shubman Gill has so far slammed just two half-centuries in the Indian Premier League 2025 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Lucknow Super Giants.

Meanwhile, Gill was unable to play a big knock for the Gujarat Titans (GT) while chasing a huge score of 204 runs against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

He was dismissed in the second over of the innings for a score of 7 runs off 5 balls, including one boundary, as Karun Nair caught him short of the crease.

On the fourth ball of the over, pacer Mukesh Kumar bowled a length ball to Gill, who smashed it towards mid-wicket and took off for a single.

However, there was no single available as the ball went directly into the hands of Karun Nair. Gill reached the middle of the pitch before being sent back by Sai Sudharsan, and this gave Karun Nair a lot of time to keep his calm and fire a perfect throw to shatter the stumps and run out Gill.

Notably, Shubman Gill got run out after a long time in the Indian Premier League, as the last instance of him being run out in a T20 game was in the IPL 2022 Qualifier 1 against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

He backs his strength – Shubman Gill hailed

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo ahead of the GT vs DC match, Daren Ganga talked about the top three of the Gujarat Titans and said that they have got classical players at the top. He said:

“I think if you look at this edition of the Tata IPL, you’d see that many of the classical players at the top, and when I say classical players, players that rely a lot on their technique to score runs, they are the ones who are scoring runs.

“And more so, scoring runs in pitches that are a little bit slower, lower, more the black soil pitches. I feel as an opposition bowling youth, you have to push these classical players out of their comfort zone, whether that’s by bowling a lot more yorkers and dots in that first power play phase of the innings, asking them to do something very different to what they’re accustomed to.”

Ganga further showered rich praise on Shubman Gill, saying that he always backs his strengths. He stated:

“I guess the sort of contravening thing to that is the fact that you think of Shubman Gill and the form that we’ve seen from him. You know, he backs his strength. He’s very familiar with playing in Ahmedabad. He has a very good record there.

“So it will be a tough ask. I also think if you look at what bowlers are doing now, they’re using bowlers in different roles. I just feel that they’re a quality top three batting lineup and you have to come with a different approach. Out-of-the-box sort of approach to get rid of them early.”
