Former Team India skipper Virat Kohli added another major milestone to his career during his return to domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-handed batter, who is playing for Delhi against Andhra in Bengaluru, became only the ninth player in history to reach the 16,000-run mark in List A cricket.
Virat Kohli returned to domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy following the BCCI mandate. He came into the tournament in red-hot form after an outstanding home ODI series against South Africa. Kohli recorded scores of 135, 102, and an unbeaten 65 in three games and secured the Player of the Series award.
Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record in List-A Cricket
Virat Kohli crossed 16,000 runs in List A cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy match in Bengaluru on Wednesday, December 24. He needed just one run before the game and achieved the milestone with his very first scoring shot while chasing a target of 299.
Kohli became only the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 16,000 List A runs and just the ninth player overall in the history of the format. He achieved the milestone in 330 innings, compared to Tendulkar’s 391 innings.
Kohli is at second place on India’s all-time List A run-scorers list, behind Tendulkar and ahead of legends like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Rohit Sharma.

The ace batter also holds the record for the most centuries in ODI cricket, with 53 hundreds to his name. He is the fastest batter to reach 14,000 runs in ODIs.
Virat Kohli Began List A Career 20 Years Ago
Virat Kohli began his List A career almost 20 years ago. He made his debut for Delhi in February 2006 in a one-day tournament at the Feroz Shah Kotla, but did not get a chance to bat in that match.
Kohli played 16 more List A matches for Delhi. He has scored 910 runs at an impressive average of 60.66, including four centuries and four half-centuries. He last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2010-11 season, where he also led the team as captain.
Kohli later returned to domestic one-day cricket during the 2013-14 NKP Salve Challenger Trophy. Delhi reached the final but lost to India Blue.
In overall List A cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-getter. Tendulkar scored 21,999 runs in 538 List A matches with 60 centuries, while Kohli has 57 centuries so far in the format.
