The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is doing its best to resume the IPL 2025. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the governing body has shortlisted three venues in South India to host the remainder of the league.
The IPL 2025 was suspended for one week amid the war between India and Pakistan. The game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala was halted due to the attack in Pathankot, and following that league was postponed.
Since then, the BCCI has been working on the things on how to conduct the remaining 16 matches. The reports claimed that Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad have been shortlisted for the rest of the tournament as a part of the plan if the Indian government gives the nod to resume the tournament.
Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged the difficulty of resuming the IPL 2025 quickly in the current environment, they also informed the idea of hosting the rest of the tournament in three venues in South India to the franchises as well.
However, several franchise officials weren’t convinced by it as they believed that the remainder of the season could be played later in the year. There is also no certainty if BCCI has decided on a cut-off date to decide whether to resume the IPL 2025 if it were to take place in May.
The overseas players who were part of the IPL 2025 have started leaving the country amid the tensions between India and Pakistan. As per the reports, it is learned that the foreign players are travelling back home even after BCCI’s plan B to resume the league in May, and this remains a challenge for both the governing body and franchises.
The reports added that the majority of the overseas players are expected to leave India by the end of Saturday. Although the franchise officials are optimistic about their return if IPL 2025 resumes in May, they don’t have any guarantee if the league goes past 25th May, when the final originally was scheduled to take place.
